Time to Move On
In August 2010 we published the
following statement:
As the last of the dust settles after the collapse of the Parish
Council in November 2009, it seems time to review the need
for a website whose raison d'etre is the exposure of corruption and
abuse.
We have always publicly stated that once we perceived the need for
our site to be past, we would close. In view of the
vindication by all authorities, including AVDC, Thames
Valley Police and the CPS of all our actions and the
information we have published, and the sanctions imposed against the malefactors
by Thames Valley Police, the Courts, the Standards Board for England and the Information Commissioner, we feel that the
need for our site is indeed now over.
We therefore announce that, unless anything should
occur which causes us to review this decision, we intend
to suspend our website as from 4th November 2010, this
being the anniversary of the exit of the Parish Council
whose corruption and abuse of power was the spur to our
creation.
We would like to record our thanks to the many residents who,
although fearful of reprisals if their support became
known, have helped us with information which we might
otherwise not have uncovered and with technical
assistance, as well as moral support. The experience of
running our site and "blowing the whistle" on what went on
has been, to put it mildly, an interesting challenge, but
one which we are confident will in the long run bring real
benefit to the community by demonstrating that corruption
will not be allowed to pass unopposed and that it is
possible to sweep it away and begin afresh, and we wish
every success to the new Parish Council when it is formed.
We are delighted to be able to
announce that nothing has occurred since that announcement
to cause us to review our decision, and therefore in
accordance with the above statement we have suspended our website as from 4th November 2010.
In accordance with legal advice all the material
formerly published by us will be retained on file, but
will only be made available to members of the public by personal application to
clerk@MentmoreParishCouncil.com.
Any such application must be accompanied by
reasonable justification, and the provision of requested
material will be entirely at our discretion.
Once again we thank all those who, despite fear of
reprisals, helped to sweep away the sleaze and misconduct
which bedevilled our community in recent years to allow a
fresh start.
